Ballast Car Technical Images
An important design feature of the Hudson Ballaster is the Self Steering Suspension System. Self steer uses the wheel and rail profiles to steer the car on tangent track and through curves. The wheel flanges are not used for steering. This results in reduced wheel wear, less noise from the wheel/rail interaction, and because there is less friction while moving the car, there is a reduction in fuel requirements.
Self steering suspension has movement in three planes, vertical, lateral, and longitudinal. This design increases track speeds and increases track stability especially in new construction projects where track can be out of line and uneven in height.
No maintenance is required with our suspension system.
